●Innovating student learning ●Constructing new teaching culture ●Promoting makers to implement the value of knowledge ●Assisting urban and rural education development ●Providing health promotion services |
With the expectation of creating the so-called "third space," the higher education Sprout Project in our school focuses on reforming students' subject learning as well as self-learning, constructing a new teaching culture, and promoting the production of maker works to demonstrate our educational performance. In addition, we have implemented the school governance and set up a subsidy mechanism for the disadvantaged students. As the only medical college in Miaoli County, we make good use of resources such as medical manpower and equipment to assist urban and rural education development and provide health promotion services. That is, we applied our profession and became a social think tank. The highlights of the first phase (2018-2019) of the plan implementation are summarized below in terms of students’ performance, teachers’ performance and professional feedback to the society. |
Students’ Performance: |
1. Our students have excellent professional skills and have participated in many domestic and international competitions. For example, the nursing students participated in the National Central District Skills Competition held by the Ministry of Labor in 2018 and won the first, third, and fourth places. In 2019, they won the first, second, and third place in the same competition. They also won the second place and the third place in the national CPR relay in 2018 and 2019 respectively. 2. The students of Medical Technology Department showed very impressive results in the national examination. For example, in 2018, the examination rate of medical examiners for fresh graduates of the medical examination department reached up to 60% (the national pass rate was 29%). The students were ranked first, 6th and 14th in the national medical examiner list. The passing rate of the Nursing Department for the fresh graduates also reached up to 88.58%. In the occupational therapist professional college entrance examination, our students from the Rehabilitation department won the 3rd, 49th and 69th nationally. In 2019, the examination passing rates of Medical Technology Department and Nursing Department were both higher than the national averages, with students from Medical Technology Department being ranked 25th, 79th, and 97th and student from Rehabilitation Department being ranked 48th in the national exam list. |
Teachers’ Performance: |
During 2018-2019, under the active operation of the "learning community" and "design thinking teacher community,” we have gradually established a new culture of teacher learning in which teachers read, learn and grow together. Besides, we have 9 teachers who have completed the training of T-shaped talents under the Ministry of Education's Nursery Program, and have invested in design thinking student workshops, which will help promote practical knowledge. In 2019, teachers took the initiative to propose 55 new cross-domain courses, which shows that teachers' innovative teaching energy has greatly improved. |
Professional Feedback to the Society: |
Between 2018 and 2019, our medical teachers and students participated in community-based activities to protect the health of the people. A total of 147 events were completed and 33,004 people participated. In addition, the Early Childhood Care Department undertook a non-profit kindergarten. Furthermore, the Occupational Safety Department assisted the Miao-li strawberry production field, establishing an independent inspection of food safety management and a quick screening mechanism for pesticide residues. These fully demonstrated that we have implemented the professional spirit of giving back to the society. |
